6 day / 5 night Lady Elliot Island Swim Tour
Lady Elliot Island is a coral cay located at the southern tip of the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef.
Situated within a highly protected “Green Zone” the coral cay is a sanctuary for over 1,200 species of marine life and is known for its abundance of manta rays, turtles, amazing array of spectacular marine life and unspoilt coral reef.
This itinerary provides you with the opportunity to swim twice a day in this wonderful environment. Lady Elliot Island has four identified swim locations and during your stay you will explore each of these areas from the protected lagoon swims to open water ways of the Coral Gardens through to the Lighthouse Bommie.
To ensure the best possible experience, the week will be planned around the predicted tides and weather. The tour staff work closely with the Island’s activities staff to plan the week ahead.
You can create your own week by opting in or out of the various planned swims. Or you will also have the option to complete only part of or all of a particular swim, ie; most swims have an early exit option. Each swim will range between 2 – 3 km and normally scheduled for an hour in duration.
Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort also offers a number of guided tours from a “Reef Walk Tour” to the “Island History Tour” there is always something to fill your day.
Your week will include the following:
- Option of two guided swims per day
- Evening sunset drinks
- Snorkelling
- Two boat assisted guided swims
- Ongoing coaching and swimming tips
- Lagoon swims
- Open water swims
- Up-close encounters with marine life

Each swim is planned to last between 60 – 75 minutes. During the swims we will stop regularly to regroup and provide direction. Each swim will cover somewhere between 2.2 – 3.5 km. Each swim is designed with an early exit option.
We work around two swims per day, apart from the first and final days of the trip, when only one swim is usually scheduled.
No, not at all. This is your holiday, swim as much or as little as you wish. We will encourage you to join us on each swim.
Most of our accommodation is based on two people sharing and for most parts we have Double or Twin Share rooms available.
In between swims you will find time to read a book, play cards or socialise with others on the trip.
You can choose to wear flippers for some or all of the swims. We are not here to race but rather enjoy the beautiful environment.
The wetsuit option is worth considering; not only do they keep you warmer, but they also provide you with a bit more flotation, protection from the sun and any marine stingers that we might encounter.
We work on a water safety ratio of 1:6 and complete a thorough risk assessment prior to each swim. Our staff are fully qualified as swim coaches and lifeguards, but are also accomplished open water swimmers.
The beautiful part of swimming in the open water is encountering the wildlife that inhabit these waterways. The waters around Lady Elliot Island are a living marine eco-system attracting a wide variety of marine-life, including whales, manta rays, turtles, dolphins and a plethora of fish. The constantly changing nature of this diverse environment offers variety to every swim.
Karen Poad– :
“Well we thought the tour would be good but WOW it was fantastic!! Great group of people, fantastic swim guides, no pressure to swim but lots of encouragement. The flight there was quick and easy, the island’s facilities were just right with friendly helpful staff. Lady Elliot is a real gem and so close to Brisbane.” – Karen Poad
