3 day / 2 night Moreton Island and Tangalooma Island Resort Swim Tour
Tour Start: 9.00am at Holt St Wharf, Pinkenba on day one.
Tour Finish: 4.00pm at Holt St Wharf, Pinkenba on day three.
Spend a few relaxing days at Tangalooma Beach, recently awarded the title of ‘World’s Best Beach to See Nature’ by Lonely Planet.
This itinerary offers a variety of swimming possibilities at a relaxed pace. This is also a perfect introduction to Swim Tours Australia, as well as being a great option for a beginner swimmer or a non-swimming companion.
Upon arrival at the island on Day One, we will embark on our first swim. We will swim from the beach with a support boat and swim down to the famed Tangalooma Wrecks, which are encrusted with corals and attract plenty of fish, making for excellent nature spotting. The boat will stay with us and offers an alternative to the swim if needed or wanted. This evening we will participate in the world-renowned Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Feeding Program.
We will start Day Two with an early swim session on the beach in front of our accommodation. Then after breakfast, Mulgumpin, Moreton Island becomes our focus. We will travel by our private 4WD Bus across the sandy island to Blue Lagoon. Blue Lagoon is a 42-hectare freshwater lake. This is a true highlight of the tour, as we swim across the lake and enjoy the plethora of birds and marine creatures along the way. After our swim, we reboard our 4WD Bus to continue exploring the island. The afternoon is spent back at the resort, where you can do as much (or as little) as you would like.
On Day Three, we take another morning swim, then indulge in breakfast. We will again join our support boat to explore the western side of the island. The day is spent enjoying the water and all of its wonders, followed by a leisurely lunch and a mid-afternoon return to reality.
Located just a short walk from the Resort Centre and only 50 metres from the iconic Tangalooma Beach, the Kookaburra Lodge is set in quiet and tranquil surroundings. All Hotel Standard room types feature air-conditioning, an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower, a hairdryer, a TV, a mini fridge, and tea/coffee making facilities. Each room opens onto a private furnished balcony.

Each swim is planned to last between 60 – 75 minutes. During the swims we will stop regularly to regroup and provide direction. Each swim will cover somewhere between 2.2 – 3.5 km. Each swim is designed with an early exit option.
We work around two swims per day, apart from the first and final days of the trip, when only one swim is usually scheduled.
No, not at all. This is your holiday, swim as much or as little as you wish. We will encourage you to join us on each swim.
Most of our accommodation is based on two people sharing and for most parts we have Double or Twin Share rooms available.
In between swims you will find time to read a book, play cards or socialise with others on the trip.
You can choose to wear flippers for some or all of the swims. We are not here to race but rather enjoy the beautiful environment.
The wetsuit option is worth considering; not only do they keep you warmer, but they also provide you with a bit more flotation, protection from the sun and any marine stingers that we might encounter.
We work on a water safety ratio of 1:6 and complete a thorough risk assessment prior to each swim. Our staff are fully qualified as swim coaches and lifeguards, but are also accomplished open water swimmers.
Moreton offers two contrasting swimming environments for our tours. Firstly, on the western side of the island, the Resort leads down to the white sandy beach the stretches the length of the island and forms the eastern-side of Moreton Bay. The bay is home to a wide array of marine animals, including dugong, turtles, rays, dolphins, seasonal whales and the occasional shark. While on this tour we also traverse the island to Blue Lagoon and swim with the freshwater species of the island including turtles and fish.
